Frequently Asked Questions

1. Q: How is Japanese Hair Straightening different from other chemical relaxers or straighteners?
A: Often, chemical preparations use THIO and LYE to break hair down. This chemical hair straightening process causes great damage to your hair, and cannot be used with chemically treated hair. Thio and lye create an unfriendly environment for hair, withdrawing vital moisture & nutrients. Your hair, as a result, could become fried, overdry and frizzy. However, Japanese Hair Straightening revitalizes and smooths hair while straightening it. It is the only safe chemical straightener.

2. Q: How long does thermal reconditioning take?
A: Depending on your hair, this process can take anywhere from 3-8 hours.

3. Q: I've heard that if I have highlights I cannot safely have this procedure done. Is this true?
A: It depends on which formula is used. Shannon Tackett uses i-Straight which is one of the only Japanese Hair Straightening products available today which can be safely used on processed hair.

4. Q: How long should I wait after Japanese Hair Straightening to have my hair colored again?
A: You should wait 7-10 days, and you should not shampoo your hair, tuck hair behind the ears or use any hair clips for 72 hours after having a hair straightening treatment.

5. Q: How long does Japanese Hair Straightening last?
A: Whatever gets treated will remain straight forever and will not become curly or wavy again. The new growth that appears in the months following the treatment will need to be Thermally Reconditioned again. The new growth usually needs to be treated about six months after the initial treatment.

6. Q: What will my hair look like after the treatment?
A: Your hair will be stick straight and shiny and feel smoother and silkier.

7. Q: When I get the new growth retreated, do they treat all of the hair again?
A: No, just the new growth is treated. The other hair will be protected by using oil or conditioner so the solution will not saturate into the previously treated hair. If there is still curl or wave in the previously treated hair, solution can be applied, but for a shorter period of time.

8. Q: How can a chemical straightener actually improve the condition of my hair?
A: Japanese Hair Straightening fuses proteins into the hair thermally, improving its overall condition. During the process of thermal reconditioning, cuticle layers are pressed smoothly which improves the feel, shine and manageability of the hair.

9. Q: After getting thermal conditioning, how much time will it take to do my hair?
A: In some cases, you won't have to do anything at all to style your hair; however, at the very most, it will only take a third of the time to style your hair.

10. Q: Do you know of any celebrities who have had Japanese Hair Straightening?
A: Yes! Jennifer Aniston, Sandra Bullock and Julianne Moore.

11. Q: What is the price for Japanese Hair Straightening?
A: Japanese Hair Straightening starts at $400. Please come in for a consultation.
